Jennifer sent a picture of Hagia Sophia for us!
Hagia Sophia (means "Holy Wisdom" according to wikipedia) is probably one of the most recognized sites of Istanbul. The current building was built around AD 530s and was once a mosque, but is now a museum. To read more about this location, check out:

That's one of my favorite places in all Istanbul. Its beautiful dome and graceful minarets dominate the Istanbul's skyline. In the interior, its mosaics are so beautiful. The mosaics are dated later (11th, 12th centuries) than the structure because of occasional iconclastic movements in Byzantine era, and thus the mosoaics were constantly removed/redone/removed/redone. The windows on the side of the dome gives the sensation as if the dome is hanging in the sky.
The calligraphy is put much and much later (Ottoman Period--Muslims more interested in words than icons for religiuos imagery) says Abu Bakr, one of the important companions of the prophet Muhammad.
Thank you Turan for your comments regarding Hagia Sophia :-) I hope that you can add comments to some of the other sites that Jennifer is visiting so that we gain a better understanding of what she is experiencing.
